Radiation
What do we really need to know about this invisible threat?
Even before the recent Japanese crisis, concerns about radiation abounded.  The press claims we are exposed to radiation from multiple sources such as the new airport security measures, being in airplanes, dental x-rays, cell phone usage and even the food we eat. 

• When should we worry and how can we adjust our lifestyles to lower the exposure?
• What levels are too high and when should we seek medical assistance? 
• And, how do we prepare for a disaster that strikes close to home?

We will begin with a presentation by Dr. David Brenner, Director of the Center for Radiologic Research at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia, who will answer our many questions about the dangers of radiation. Dr. Brenner has spent much of his career researching the biological effects of all forms of radiation on the human body. His expertise has been in high demand in regards to the recent event in Fukushima, Japan.

This event will also feature a discussion on disaster preparedness by Stephen Doyle, Fire and Life Safety Specialist at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell. We will learn what you can do to prepare yourself and your family for a future disaster and how the Hospital is prepared to handle such events.
